“…Can GroupMail Link to my ACT Database?”
Using the GroupMail Business Edition you can link directly to your ACT Database (ACT! version 2010 and above).
Please note, that Sage, the developers of the ACT Database, only allow for ‘read only’ access when connecting; but you will still be able to see the external ACT! data in your GroupMail Group and send an email to your ACT contacts without importing them into GroupMail.
To create the Connection, create an new Group and choose to link it to an External Database.
Click on New to Create a New Database Connection and then specify a Name (any name will do) and click on the “Wizard” button.
Choose “ACT! OLE DB Provider for Reporting 2.0″ from the list and click on Next.
You can now browse to the location of your ACT Database to select it. Enter in your UserName and Password if you use one and then click on “Text Connection” to verify the connection works, then click OK.
Once you have confirmed that the “Test Connection” is successful, then you can proceed by clicking Ok. All that left is to complete creating your Group which will link to this ACT Database. You can enter in a SQL query to show the data in the table that contains your recipient data. Click on the blue [SQL] below.
Type in the following SQL query: Select * From CONTACT
(Where “CONTACT” is the name of the table in your database that contains your recipients data. If you store you recipient data in a different table then modify the SQL query to suit.
Click OK and then “Next”.
On the drop down simply choose the field in your ACT Database that contains your recipients Email address.
All that’s left to do is give your GroupMail Group a Name and then click on “Create”.
Congratulations ! You now have a GroupMail Group connecting directly to your ACT database.
