There are many reasons why you might want to send a different or unique file attachment to each person on your email list. You might be sending monthly invoices or sales reports, for example, with information that is different for each person on your mailing list. Whatever the reason, GroupMail makes it easy to send unique email attachments to each contact on your mailing list.
There are several different options in GroupMail to send unique attachments. Each option will allow you to include a different, unique attachment for each recipient on your mailing list.
How to Send Unique Attachments to Your Email List
First, you will need to open (read: create) a new message in GroupMail. Then, in the GroupMail Message Editor, you should select the attachment option to open the attachment manger (Insert/Attachment). You then need to click Custom Attachment to open a dialog box which gives you some options.
Option 1
In order for this option to work you will need to include the full path to the file you want to attach in a field in your group. So you might have a group with a field called “Attachment” or “File”. For one of the recipients the data int this field might include a path to a unique file, such as C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\Attachments\file1.pdf. Another recipient will have a different file path in that field (i.e. C\:Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\Attachments\file2.pdf)
Option 2
In your group you will need a column that specifies the name of the file but does not need to include the full path or extension as this configured with the other fields. You can select the location that the files are stored. Then specify the column name that contains the attachment file names. Then specify the attachment extension.
Option 3
You can specify the location of a document that contains Merge Fields. This means that you can have an external file which contains personal information through the use of a merge field and GroupMail can include the necessary data.
To see how unique attachments work, create a test group in GroupMail with some of your own email addresses. Then, create a test message and send some unique attachments.
It is so cool, you might start sending unique attachments to your email list even if you don’t have to.
As always, contact the GroupMail support team if you need any help.
